Wallowa County Real Estate

I don't usually follow these blogs but maybe we can find some interesting discussions.  This is going to be about real estate market in Wallowa County (and maybe more).

We've had a great run-up of property appreciation and now it seems to have come to an end.  With about 20 months of inventory in the pipe, we have about 14 months more property available than is needed for a balanced market.  And more agents to sell it than you can believe.  All because people want to move to Wallowa County but nobody really has a job.  The County really needs some good ideas to bring new money to the area.  Tourists/sports bring $$, are we doing enough to promote touriism??  We have a huge back country and wilderness area.  Do we need more trails or just more publicity??

How about you folks from out of the area..  Any thoughts about promoting Enterprise, OR, I know you realize this is the location you would choose to live if it were feasible.

So, my wife just came back from a road trip to the Puget Sound.  She reports almost no campers or RV's on the road (until she tried to exit Hwy 90, when they blocked the exit).  Does this indicate we are not going to see Tourist traffic in the County this summer?  I suppose some people may consider $4 gas a bit unreasonable...  My thought is, you better take advantage of it while you can,  I don't think it is coming down any time soon.

We need to be looking at alternative energy,  Sure it may not run your car/truck today but it will help reduce the dependency on fossil fuel and may even help bring the cost of gas down.  I will save the value of the dollar for another time.  If homes and water can be heated and lighted without fossil fuel, think what a reduction in dependency would be created.  Additional drilling or badgering OPEC to increase production is at best a short term solution.  Fossil fuel is a limited commodity, it cannot last forever, the world is going to have to come to grips with that and find alternatives.
